Yes, but it can take a long time to download the almanac data from the 
satellites. Then  it will finally recognize its position.

i checked the network settings for positioning and that's turned on.
however i just thought, the phone in question does not have a sim card.
i wouldn't think this would be an issue except in this assisted gps
thing because it can't use the cell towers to help. would it not be able
to find the integrated gps without a sim in place?
