[Loadstone] Program mklsdb - make Loadstone database

My only question then is, in Loadstone itself you can import multiple files
into one database. Can this program append to a database file with multiple
files from the Pointshare Exchange?

database format didn't change for a long time, so it's compatible with
current, and older versions of LS.

Yes, main advantage is possibility of generate a binary database outside the
phone, which is many times faster; but there are also some disadvantages,
like no non-ascii characters...

So I understand, what does this allow you to do? Not have to import the file
on the phone into the database? So it's faster? Is that the only advantage,
or is there more? And I guess it's compatible with the latest Loadstone

Thanks in advance,

I finished an internal test few days earlier than i planned, and it's time
to present the program to the community...

This version is experimental, so rather dedicated not for a beginner
computer or Loadstone or phone users...

Mklsdb can be downloaded from:

Below is a readme file, which explains the installation and usage of this

Program: mklsdb (make Loadstone Database)

Author: Grzegorz Zlotowicz (grzezlo at wp.pl)

Version: 0.1 (experimental)

License: Freeware.

Mklsdb is a program to generate a binary database for a Loadstone GPS.

It requires the external dbshell program, (version 1.1) available on the
internet at:

Unzip the dbshell program to some empty directory, for example c:\dbshell.

Then, unzip the mklsdb.zip in the same folder as dbshell.exe.

Make sure, that mklsdb.exe and emptyldb.dat are unzipped.

1. Prepare a Loadstone import text file, downloadable for example from the
Point Share Exchange website.

2. Convert this file into plain Ascii (no ansi, no utf-8, only 7-bit ASCII)!

3. Run the mklsdb program from any directory, giving as an argument the
import file name, for example:

c:\dbshell\mklsdb.exe c:\loadstone databases\some data.txt

4. The short beep will be heart, signing the start of the import.

In the same time in the current working directory a file named ls.db will be

Mklsdb produces no output messages, only error messages in case of troubles.

Be carefull not to press any keys as arrows, letters and so on, because this
can spoil one or more lines which mklsdb sends to the dbshell program.

You can switch into an other window safely.

Look at the ls.db file during the process, the growth of the file size will
give you an idea of the import progress.

When import will finish, the next short beep sound will be generated.

5. Note that the file size of the database is now few times smaller than
during import - it's because of "compact database" operation.

6. Now manually rename the ls.db result file into some name more significant
to you, and then copy it into the loadstone "databases" directory.

Any comments will be appreciated.

Greetings, Greg.
