Hi all,

A simple tool to convert a nmea.log file to a timed database can now be
found on the tools page as the 'Breadcrumb Generator'.

Tools and Resources

On this page we have brought together a number of geographical tools that may help you to get the most out of the Loadstone GPS program. Each tool opens in a new window.

If you have an idea about other tools that might make the use of Loadstone GPS easier, please contact the Loadstone team via the mailing list or via the contact page.

Geocoder

A geocoder tries to find the geographical coordinates for a given address. The Loadstone GPS geocoder is based upon 'Google Maps' and uses the Google database of coordinates of addresses.

Enter as much as you know about the address you are searching for. The 'User ID' is not required, but if entered will appear in the Loadstone GPS formatted line for inclusion in a Loadstone database.

The potential of Google's geocoding technology is limited by legal restrictions in some countries for web application development where postcodes cannot be easily translated into latitudes and longitudes like Zip codes in the US.

Open the geocoder

POI Converter

The POI Converter originally was written to convert .csv files from POI-Factory to the Loadstone GPS database format. Experience has learned, that many other (ASCII) files can be converted through minor changes to the configuration of the converter.

Contact the Loadstone team via the mailing list if you know of a database format that you would like to see included in the converter.

Route planner

This tool lets you create a file with a list of checkpoints with directional commands added to the comment field of each point. You provide a startpoint and destination and select the points inbetween that connect these two points. With this checkpoint file loaded this results in the announcement of the pointname that you are approaching, followed by a 'turn left, go straight or turn right message. Also the clockface direction is announced. With verbose mode checked, a truncated part of the name of the next point and the distance to that point is also announced. The truncation is due to the limited size of the comment field (75 characters). This is a useful tool when practicing a new route, or to provide visitors with a database of points and a checklist file that serves as route to your house. You can reverse the route and save both the 'to' and 'from' routes under different names. Beam the route files to the phone and place them in the 'loadstone/checkpoints' directory.

Open the Route planner

Breadcrumb generator

The breadcrumb generator takes a nmea.log file as can be created by Loadstone-GPS (Functions/Start Logging and look for the log in the root folder of the LS installation) and converts it into a database with sequential names (numbers), the entries recorded at timed intervals.

Open the Breadcrumb Generator

Loadstone Database Explorer

In the on-line Loadstone-GPS Database Explorer you provide a valid Loadstone-GPS database file and an optional list of checkpoints. Next you choose a starting point and a destination point or search direction. You limit your angle of view from 'wide angle' to 'tele' and decide if you want to see all points or only checked points. The resulting list shows the points in your database, sorted on distance and restricted by heading and viewangle. You can select points for inclusion in a list of checkpoints, add or remove checkpoints from an existing list and download the result as a .txt file. This tool replaces the 'List of checkpoints generator' and can be seen as the on-line version of 'Exploration mode' on the phone.

Open the Database Explorer

Database reprocessor

It sometimes happens that a converted or edited database will not be imported into the Loadstone program (0 entries entered, 0 duplicate entries ignored). A small database is easely checked, but with large files the 'Database Reprocessor' utility comes in handy.

The database reprocessor checks a Loadstone database for syntax, UTF8 compliance and removes unwanted code left behind by text processors such as MS Word. Aditionally you can remove entries in your database that are flagged for deletion on the Point Share Exchange website (after you first have uploaded these deletions), remove duplicate entries by position and/or name, or 'thin out' a crowded database by declaring points of close proximity as duplicates.

The original database remains unchanged on your harddisk, all this tool does is offer a cleaned-up version of this file for download.

Distance and Heading Calculator

Calculate the distance and heading between two places on earth by providing there geographical coordinates.

Open the distance and heading calculator

Degrees to decimal converter

Convert location data from degrees to decimal notation.

<a href="deg2dec/index.php" target=_blank">Open the degrees to decimal converter

Loadstone-GPS to Trekker converter

Have a friend who uses the Trekker and wants to visit you? Send him/her your Loadstone-GPS points that lead to your front door. Formatted for use in the free mode of the Trekker.

Open the Loadstone-GPS to Trekker converter

QuickKey Manager

With the QuickKey Manager you can change the layout of the numerical keys in Loadstone's navigation mode. Delete function assignments, assign new functions to keys and create keys that have double functions.

Open the QuickKey Manager

Workshop

The point types and classes collector lets you add names to the lists of types and classes to be assigned to points. In Loadstone GPS a point has a name and is of a certain type that belongs to a certain class. At this moment we are collecting names for types and classes to be included.
