Is there a maximum length for the name of a point? I'm getting a "possibly 
corrupted" error on a line which looks good except, perhaps, that the point 
name is too long.

Is the identifier stored internally as a string or as an integer? If a string,
what's its maximum length? If an integer, how many bits wide is the field, and
is the field signed or unsigned?
