Loadstone GPS has two main modes of operation: Navigation mode, and Exploration mode.

When you first run the Loadstone GPS program your focus is placed in " Navigation mode ". Navigation Mode allows a user to find out information about their current environment. Information like:

• The closest point to your current position in any direction (GPS receiver required).
• The current speed, direction and altitude you are travelling at (GPS receiver required).
• Your current longitude and latitude coordinates (GPS receiver required).
• Assign an alphanumeric label to coordinates in the form of a " point ".
• Determine the unique identification provided by the Mobile Mast (Cellular site) that your phone is currently using.
• Assign an alphanumeric label to the currently used Mobile Mast (Cellular Site).

The following text summarizes what each phone key does while in Navigation mode (default settings, see 'Key editor' below):

The "Shift" key referenced below can be thought of similarly to that of a shift key on a keyboard with the difference being that you do not press it at the same time as another key but rather just before. On most models of Nokia phones, this key is the Backspace key.

Softkey 1

Activates the " Options menu. "

Softkey 2

Exits the Loadstone GPS program.

Joystick-up

Announces the closest point directly in front of you in the direction of travel.

Joystick-down

Announces the closest point directly behind you in the direction of travel.

Joystick-left

Announces the closest point directly to your left in the direction of travel.

Joystick-right

Announces the closest point directly to your right in the direction of travel.

Joystick-middle

Announces the closest point to your current position regardless of direction of travel.

Long joystick keys

Available after you have or have had a GPS fix, holding a joystick key down for more than a second brings up the 'Show Area' screen in the given direction. Selecting a point and hitting the middle key will move to Exploration Mode and give focus to the selected point. The 'Current Point' menu will be available to check or uncheck the point, add, show, edit, or remove a comment, or delete the point.

Shifted joystick keys

When in Navigation Mode, the shifted and long shifted joystick keys override the 'Use checkpoints only' and 'Isolate point' settings. E.g.: with 'Use checkpoints only' enabled and pressing the center joystick (select) key, only heading and distance to the closest checked point are announced, but the shifted select key announces heading and distance to the closest point whether it is checked or not, the long shifted select key pops up a list of all points in both database and checklist.

Key 1

Returns your current speed and heading.

Long Key 1

Toggles the sound setting.

Key 2

Returns your current GPS receiver's horizontal signal accuracy in meters or feet (depending on the setting in Options/Settings/Display/Distance Unit). See also: Options/Settings/GPS/User Range Error.

Shift+Key 2

Returns your current GPS receiver's vertical signal accuracy. See above.

Long Key 2

Toggles the signal monitor setting.

Key3

Returns the current type of GPS fix. Modern receivers will usually return a three dimensional GPS fix, if the word 'differential' appears before 'GPS' you are also connected to a SBAS (WAAS or EGNOS) service.

Long Key 3

Toggles the cell monitor setting.

Key 4

Shows the current altitude.

Long Key 4

Toggles the wake up setting.

Key 5

Announces the closest checkpoint.

Shift+Key 5

Returns the current latitude in decimal format.

Long Key 5

Announces the comment for a point with a commented checkpoint list loaded.

Key 6

Returns the current Latitude and longitude in time format.

Shift+Key 6

Returns the current longitude in decimal format.

Long Key 6

Rotates among the various point direction announcements (clockface, relative degrees, etc.)

Key 7

Returns the number of orbiting satellites your GPS receiver can use at the present time.

Shift+Key 7

Starts or stops the Trip Meter.

Key 8

Allows the user to label a mobile mast (cellular site).

Shift+Key 8

Resets the Trip Meter.

Long 8 key

Show Locked point. Announces heading and distance to the 'Locked' point (see below).

Key 9

Shows the currently used cell (mast) site. If the site has not been labeled then unique numeric values will be returned.

Shift+Key 9

Shows the Trip meters result.

Long Key 9

Lock point. Sets the last announced point aside for use with 'Show Locked point' (see above).

Shift Long Key 9

Unlock point. Clears a locked point.

Star Key

Shows the current time as retrieved by the GPS receiver.

Shift+Star Key

Shows the current date as retrieved by the GPS receiver.

Long Star Key

Brings up the 'Find Point' screen.

Key 0

Toggles between Navigation mode and Exploration mode.

Shift key 0

Activates Training mode. A short description of the mappable Quick Keys is announced. Press again to quit.

Long Key 0

Plays back a recorded memo. Hit softkey 2 to stop.

Shift Long Key 0

Starts the recording of a memo. Hit softkey 2 to stop.

NumberSign Key (Hash key)

Enter point. This key allows the user to quickly assign a name (label) to the current position (latitude and longitude) and store this point data in the current database in real time (use current) or as as it was on the moment you pressed the # key (from commencement). With 'checkpoint' set to 'yes' (use left or right arrow keys) you can choose to automatically 'check' a newly entered point.

Shift+#key

Manually enter point. Lets you enter a point in the current database by supplying a name (label), the latitude and longitude, and some additional data.

The keys in navigation mode (QuickKeys) are defined in the 'keys.map' file in the root of the Loadstone directory on your phone. Experienced users may want to edit the default behaviour of these QuickKeys. Please see the 'Key editor' entry on this page for information on how to do this.

Softkey 1

Activates the " Options menu. "

Softkey 2

Exits the Loadstone GPS program.

Joystick

The joystick is disabled in Exploration mode.

Numeric keys

Numeric keys 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 represent the directions as found on a compass. Key 2 = north, key 8 = south, etc.

Short numeric keypress

Moves the focus to a point in the given direction.

Long numeric keypress

Announces which point lies in the given direction without moving the focus (look ahead).

Shifted numeric keypress

Performs the 'Show Area' function in the given direction.

Short key 5

Announces the point that has focus.

Long key 5

Announces the closest point.

Shifted Key 5

Performs the 'Show Area' function in all directions.

Short star Key

Marks or unmarks the current point for use as a checkpoint.

Long star Key

Announces the comment associated to a checkpoint.

Shifted star key

Activates the 'Find Point' function.

Shifted Long Star Key

Locks a selected point (see Navigation mode).

Short key 0

Toggles between Navigation mode and Exploration mode.

Short number sign Key (Hash key)

Allows the user to edit or update a point.

Shifted number sign Key (Hash key)

Performs the 'Delete Point' function after confirmation.

The "options menu" contains sub-menus that contain various features and functions that drive Loadstone GPS.

These menus contain dynamic options/functions that may only appear under certain circumstances. E.G. When your GPS unit is not connected to the GPS program, many of the position-related functions will not be displayed and without checking points a number of menu items will not show up.

The Last Point submenu is visible in Navigation mode after a point is announced. The Current Point submenu is visible in Exploration mode if a point has focus.

Explore

Switches to Exploration mode

Check

Checks a point as a Checkpoint.

Uncheck

UnChecks a checked point.

Lock

Sets the last announced point aside for use with 'Show Locked point' and provides a way to keep track of one single point in reference to the current point.

Unlock

Clears the locking of a point.

Update

Allows a user to update a selected point.

Delete

Removes the currently selected point from the Loadstone GPS Database.

Add Comment

Lets you add a comment (max 75 characters) to a checkpoint.

Show Comment

Announces a comment attached to a checkpoint.

Edit Comment

Lets you edit a comment attached to a checkpoint.

Delete Comment

Lets you delete a comment attached to a checkpoint.

Send

Lets you send the last/current point in checkpoint format as a text message, via multimedia, via e-mail, via Bluetooth or via Infrared. If the receiving phone has Loadstone-GPS installed, the user will be asked what to do with the message (save, use as checkpoint, set as locked point, delete from inbox).

The Functions Submenu contains a list of functions that Loadstone GPS can be made to execute. Most of these functions can be bound to a key or key-sequence on the phone.

Exploration Mode

Exploration mode allows a user to explore and interact with points in a map-like fashion. By using various keys on the phone keypad, a user can virtually navigate from point to point. Once in Exploration mode, this option changes to Navigation mode.

Find Point

This function searches the currently loaded database and appears when in Exploration mode. It allows a user to enter search criteria which can contain special characters: the period acts like a wildcard, matching anything, and the comma at the beginning of the search term will look for pointnames that start with that search term. A comma at the end searches for a match at the end of the pointname, so enclosing a search term in comma's searches for an exact match. A user can temporarily adjust the number of results and the search radius (sliders, use the joystick left and right arrows). While using the search option all other exploration mode commands are available. The number of search results setting is needed so that results start returning in a reasonable amount of time. This setting is not a hard limit on the maximum number of results, you can always hit the 'more' option. Pressing select on a point takes you there. The defaults are set in Settings/General.

Show Area

Appears when in Exploration mode. This function shows a list of points surrounding the starting point (the point that has focus)and allows the user to check/uncheck points. The same rules apply as in 'find Point'. The default number of points shown is set in Settings/General. Pressing select on a point takes you there.

Use checkpoints only

Use checkpoints only allows a user to follow a specific list of "checked" points without being confused by other points.
(Only visible with points checked. Default is off, press select to activate).

Isolate checkpoint

Isolate checkpoint works in a similar fashion to "Use checkpoints" in that a user can navigate using a specific list; however, this also enables a user to query the program via the joystick and find out what the closest point on the list is regardless of the direction of travel.
(Only visible with points checked. Default is off, press select to activate).

Auto Announce

With points checked (a list of checkpoints loaded) Auto Announce will automatically announce a user's proximity to the closest point. The frequency of announcements can be set in the Options/Settings/Monitor dialog.
(Default is off, press select to activate).

Lock Point

Sets the last announced point aside for use with 'Show Locked point' and provides a way to keep track of one single point in reference to the current point.

Unlock Point

Clears the locking of a point.

Show Locked Point

Shows distance and heading to a locked point.

Goto

The Goto function enters exploration mode at a given set of coordinates, or manually moves the exploration point. The goto feature can also be used to explore an area outside your search radius, just enter a set of coordinates within the area where you'd like to start exploration and you'll be moved there.

Goto locked point

Gives focus to the locked point in Exploration mode.

Label Point

Allows a user to associate textual information to a pair of X/Y coordinates (Longitude/latitude) such as Point Name (text field) and Privacy information (left and right joystick).

Label Cell

Allows a user to assign a textual name to the numeric values associated to a Cellular-phone site / Mobile-phone mast.

Enter Point

Allows a user to enter a point and add significant information such as Point Name, Latitude, Longitude (text fields), accuracy and Privacy information (left and right joystick).

Record memo

Lets you record a spoken message. A new recording erases a previous message. Stop recording by pressing softkey 2.

Play memo

Plays back a recorded message. Stop playback by pressing softkey 2.

Show GPS Time

Shows the current time as received by the GPS unit. (This time reading is very accurate in comparison to the phone's clock).

Show GPS Date

Shows the current date as received by the GPS unit.

Sync to GPS Time

Sets the phone's clock to the clock on the GPS unit.

Web browser

Connect to a specific URL on the internet.

Training mode

In training mode all mappable quick keys in the Navigation screen are shortly described.

The Database submenu is used to load/unload points. It also contains import/export functions

Load Database

Allows a user to create or load a database of points. (temporarily replacing any previous loaded databases).

Add Database

Allows a user to add a database to the currently loaded database. With more than one database loaded and entering a new point you are asked in which database to save this point.

Remove database

Lets you remove a database if more than one is loaded.

Import Database

Allows a user to import a database containing points. The database to be imported must be in text format specially prepared for use with Loadstone GPS. This database will be merged with the currently active database. You will be informed about the importation process which can take longer if you are importing a large database. Be patient and wait until the 'Import complete' message is spoken.

Export Personal Data

Allows a user to export all personal points (points not saved by others) to a text file specially prepared for GPS program importation and the master database of points on the web site.

Export All Data

Allows a user to export all points contained in the database to a text file specially prepared for Loadstone GPS and the master points web site.

Send

Allows a user to transfer a file containing exported points to a device such as a computer or phone with the appropriate capabilities.

The Checkpoints submenu is used to load/unload, save and append to lists of checkpoints.

Load checkpoints

Allows a user to load a list of checked points. (replacing any previous loaded lists).

Append Checkpoints

Allows a user to add additional lists of checked points to the list already loaded.
(Only visible with points checked.)

Save checkpoints

Saves checked points currently loaded. If you name the file 'default' without the quotes, the list of checkpoints will be loaded at startup.
(Only visible with points checked.)

Clear checkpoints

This feature will erase (uncheck) all 'checked" points that may currently be in use but that are not currently saved.
(Only visible with points checked.)

Send

Allows a user to transfer a file containing a list of checkpoints to a device such as a computer or phone with the appropriate capabilities.

Export

Exports a list of checkpoints currently in memory as a Loadstone GPS textual database, ready for inclusion in the PointShareExchange database on the web. Can be used to create a subset of any database(s). To send this database to a computer or another telephone use the 'Send' option in the 'Database' submenu.

The GPS Submenu contains functions that directly relate to your Bluetooth GPS receiver. Many of these functions only appear when connected to an active GPS receiver. This Submenu contains various reset, power saving and EGNOS/WAAS functions. If EGNOS/WAAS is available in your area you may experience improved accuracy if enabled. GPS reception is influenced by atmospheric and weather conditions. Connect default GPS

In order to use many features of Loadstone GPS you must have a Bluetooth GPS receiver switched on and connected to your mobile phone. This feature allows you to connect with your GPS receiver.

Connect secundary GPS

Connects to the receiver saved as secundary GPS. In Configuration/Settings/GPS you can select the 'Try secundary GPS' to have Loadstone automatically search for this receiver if available. when the default receiver is not responding.

Disconnect GPS

This function will disconnect your Bluetooth GPS receiver with your mobile phone and Loadstone GPS.

Find GPS

This function will search for Bluetooth GPS receivers in the vicinity and will allow you to connect with one. Once connected you are able to use many more features of Loadstone GPS. This menu also contains the 'Log playback' option, that lets you listen to a previously recorded log file.

Save as default GPS

Lets you save your current GPS receiver as the default receiver. The 'Select GPS' item will disappear and Loadstone connects at startup.

Save as secundary GPS

Saves a second receiver (for example your phones built-in receiver) for quick access in case the default GPS receiver fails.

Delete default GPS

Lets you remove a previously saved default GPS receiver.

Delete secudary GPS

Lets you remove a previously saved secundary GPS receiver.

GPS Commands

A number of GPS related commands such as cold, warm and hot start, WAAS or EGNOS and powersaving on or off also can be accessed via this submenu once a connection has been established.

DGPS

Differential GPS.

EGNOS

European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service.

RTCM

Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services.

SBAS

Satellite Based Augmentation Services (WAAS and EGNOS).

WAAS

Wide Area Augmentation Service.

Start/Stop Logging

Allows a user to create a log of GPS data acquired during a session. The resulting file can be given a name and is stored in the logs folder of the Loadstone installation directory. By selecting an existing file the log data is appended to that file.

Start/Stop relaying

Toggles relaying, allowing another phone equipped wit Loadstone-GPS to make use of one GPS receiver.

This submenu contains dynamic options/functions that may only appear under certain circumstances. E.G. When your GPS unit is not connected to the phone, many of the position-related functions will not be displayed.

Accuracy

Shows the level of horizontal accuracy you can expect based on the current number of satellites in view. See also Options/Settings/GPS/User Range Error.

Vertical Accuracy

Shows the level of vertical accuracy you can expect based on the current number of satellites in view. See also Options/Settings/GPS/User Range Error.

Satellites

Shows the number of satellites currently in view.

GPS Quality

Shows the quality of the GPS's current signal (GPS fix or WAAS/EGNOS corrected).

Speed

Displays the current speed that the GPS unit is moving at.

Heading

Displays the current heading that the GPS unit is moving in.

Latitude

Shows the current latitude (Earth's Y-Accis) in time notation.

Longitude

Shows the current longitude (Earth's X-axis) in time notation.

Altitude

Shows the current altitude (height).

Cell

Shows information related to the current Cellular-phone site (Mobile-phone mast). If a textual label is associated to the site/mast it will be announced; otherwise numeric values will be announced.

Decimal Latitude

Shows the current latitude in decimal format.

Decimal Longitude

Shows the current longitude in decimal format.

Grid square

Position used by HAM radio amateurs.

Next checkpoint

Shows the next point in the list of checked points. Only visible with Use Checkpoints Only checked.

Show Comment

Shows a comment attached to a checkpoint.

Send

Lets you send your current position (latitude and longitude) as a text message, via multimedia, via e-mail, via Bluetooth or via Infrared. If the receiving phone has Loadstone-GPS installed, the user will be asked what to do with the message (save, use as checkpoint, set as locked point, delete from inbox).

Here you can start, stop and view the tripmeter.

Start Trip Meter

Starts the trip meter.

Reset Trip Meter

Resets the trip meter.

Show Trip Meter

Shows the trip meter's result screen.

Here you will find all you want to know about the appearance of the sun and the moon. A GPS fix is required to synchronize the times with your current position.

Here you can maintain a list of URL's that point to online tools that are useful in combination with the Loadstone GPS program. This list resides in the root directory of the Loadstone directory on your phone. Pressing select on one of these URL's starts the phones browser and tries to connect to the selected URL.

Configuration submenu

Here you can configure the Loadstone GPS program to behave as you want it!

Settings Dialog

The Settings Dialog contains many options that allow Loadstone GPS to be configured to meet your particular requirements.

The Settings Dialog has seven tabs that you move between by using the joystick's left and right arrows. The first tab you come to by default is the General Settings tab.

Sound

Loadstone GPS uses sounds in combination with displayed messages to notify the user of certain events. This may not always be desirable in certain quiet environments. The default is Sound on and you toggle the setting by pressing the Joystick select button.

Vibrate

This option will only appear on mobile phones using Symbian V7.1 and above. This should include most second-generation Symbian mobile phones. When set to "on" the phone will vibrate depending on the settings in the Sound Settings Tab. Default is off.

Max search radius

Allows a user to enter the maximum range (in Kilometers)to search for points.

Search Results

Sets the default value for the number of search results displayed when using the 'Find Point' option in the 'Functions' menu in Exploration mode.

Area results

Sets the default number of area results when using 'Show Area' in the 'Functions' menu in Exploration mode.

Approach time

Calculates the time in seconds it will take the user to reach a checkpoint and notifies the user when that time is less than defined in this setting (Approaching X). Only if speed is insufficient Max approach distance is used.

Arrival radius

Defines the virtual circle around a checkpoint in meters and triggers, when the user enters this circle, the arrival alarm (Arriving at X). Set to zero to disable the arrival announcement. Due to GPS inaccuracy the reported distance may differ from the arrival distance.

Point announce

Here you can choose from one of the four options to announce a point: off, on approach, on arrival or both.

Comment announce

Here you can choose from one of the four options to announce a comment: off, on approach, on arrival or both.

Auto-label cell sites

This setting will automatically label a previously unlabeled cellular site. The label is determined by using the GPS signal to calculate the distance, direction and name from the nearest point in the currently used database of points. This option will only work if you are using a GPS receiver. The setting itself is a toggle that you change by pressing select.

Wake up

The wake up feature can be used to help when using a bluetooth headset or speaker. When enabled this will add the word "attention" before the speech output to try to wake the headset up from power saving mode.

Screen keep awake

Set to 'on' to keep the phone from activating the screen saver when loadstone is running.

Confirm exit

When set to yes, you will be prompted before exiting Loadstone GPS. This can be useful if your phone is in your pocket and unexpectedly receives a key-press that unknowingly exits the program on your behalf. This setting is a toggle that you change by pressing select.

Confirm modified checkpoints

When set to 'on' you are warned if the current checklist has been modified and you are asked to save these modifications.

User name

By default your UserName is the IMEI number of your mobile phone. You should change this setting to match your UserName on the PointShare Exchange web site. Normally this will be an E-mail address. This setting is an edit field where you can input text.

Settings for signals and connections.

Signal Monitor

The Signal Monitor if enabled will notify the user if the GPS receiver is currently acquiring a signal. By default this is on and you can toggle the setting by pressing Joystick select.

Cell Monitor

This feature if switched on will notify you of the status of the cellular site that your phone is connected to. The default is ON and it again is a toggle.

Show Weak Signal

Show Weak Signal if switched on will notify the user when the GPS receiver locks on to fewer than three satellites. Although still useable, when your GPS receiver locks on to fewer than three satellites your accuracy suffers. The default setting is on and this is a toggle setting.

Show Good Signal

This setting if switched on will notify you when the GPS receiver locks on to more than four satellites. Four or more satellites is usually pretty good. The default is on.

Cell entry

This setting determines whether or not you are notified when you enter a cellular site. The setting has 4 possible options: Off, Labeled, Unlabeled and Both. This setting only works when the Cell monitoring setting is set to on.

Cell exit

This setting determines whether or not you are notified when you exit a cellular site. The setting has 4 possible options: Off, Labeled, Unlabeled and Both. This setting only works when the Cell monitoring setting is set to on.

Clock Check Interval

The clock check interval controls when you get the 'GPS clock seems to have stopped ticking' message. If the gps data pauses for longer then clock check interval the message is spoken. Most users can leave this at the default setting of 5 seconds. If you experience frequent data loss you may want to increase the interval.

Clock check beeps

If you have clock check beeps on, you'll get a beep every 5 seconds as long as there is no data coming in from the receiver. If the data returns the beeps stop. The Bluetooth connection is not dropped during the selected interval.

Auto Announce Interval

Use to adjust the frequency of announcements when in Auto Announce mode. Defaults to 0 (automatic), increases in steps of 10 seconds. Use left and right joystick (slider) to adjust.

This tab contains settings relevant to how Loadstone GPS displays various pieces of information.

Heading display

This setting controls how your current heading is displayed. You have four options to choose from. Degrees will return your heading in degrees, (relative to a circle - North is 0/360). Cardinal will display directions relative to a compass reading, (Due north, north-north-east, west etc). Clock face will return your heading relative to the time on a clock, (12 o'clock is straight ahead, 9 o'clock is to your left etc). Simplified cardinal is similar to cardinal but the directions are less accurate - returning the 8 main points on a compass reading, (north, north-east, east, south-east etc). To select an item, press select on Heading display and use your joystick up and down arrows until your cursor is on your desired choice. Press select to accept.

Point Direction

This setting controls how the direction of the nearest point is returned when using functions such as those in Navigation mode when using the arrows on the joystick. For options see above. There's an extra option: Relative degrees. This announces your direction as the number of degrees left or right to your main heading. To select an item, press select on Point direction and use your joystick up and down arrows until your cursor is on your desired choice. Press select to accept.

Explore Direction

This setting controls how directions are returned when in Exploration mode. For options see above. Explore Direction has no 'clock face' and 'relative degrees' options, as these are not absolute values. To select an item, press select on Explore direction and use your joystick up and down arrows until your cursor is on your desired choice. Press select to accept.

Speed unit

This setting determines how speed is measured. You have 3 choices. KM - Kilometers Per Hour, Miles - Miles Per Hour, and Knots - Nautical Miles Per Hour. After selecting this option by pressing select, use your joystick up and down arrows until your choice is selected and press select.

Distance unit

This setting determines how distance is measured. You have 3 choices. Metric, imperial or nautical. After pressing select on this setting, use your joystick up and down arrows to select your option and press select.

Altitude unit

This setting determines how altitude is measured. You have 2 choices. Metric or imperial. After pressing select on this setting, use your joystick up and down arrows to select your option and press select.

Altitude measurement

This setting controls how your current altitude is measured. You have 2 choices. GEO-id, or Mean sea level. Most applications use Mean Sea Level for calculations. After pressing select on this option, use your joystick up and down arrows to select your choice and press select.

Accuracy measurement

Accuracy can be displayed in two ways: as distance or as HDOP (Horizontal Dilution Of Precision.

Miscelanius GPS settings.

Automatic timezone

Activating this setting will try to determine the local time zone rather than using the time offset hours and time offset minutes settings. This should also account for daylight savings time. (only on 3rd generation phones)

Time Offset Hours

Pressing select on the Time Offset Hours item will place your cursor in a list of time offsets. Use your up and down arrows on your joystick to navigate through the list. Press select when you have selected your time offset hour.

Time Offset Minutes

Same as above for minutes. Press select when you have selected your time offset minute.

Auto sync to GPS time

Automatically sychronizes the phones clock to GPS time when switched to 'on'.

WAAS/EGNOS

WAAS is the name of a satellite accuracy correction system used in North America. EGNOS is the European equivalent. If this setting is switched on your GPS receiver will listen for this correction signal if it is available. If in use, you can achieve point accuracy’s in the 1-3 meter range. There are three settings: 'On' sends the 'on' signal to the receiver at startup, 'Off (default) sends the off signal and 'Unchanged' sends no signal at all for better connection time with certain receivers.

Static threshold

A numeric value between 0 and 999 measured in KPH. When your speed drops below the assigned value, Loadstone will assume you are stationary. Speed will set to 0 and heading will lock to what it was prior to the threshold. A value of 0 turns Static Threshold off.

User Range Error

This is the expected accuracy range to produce accuracy output in meters or feet (depending on the setting in Options/Settings/Display/Distance Unit). Entered in meters it defaults to 8 meters, a commonly accepted range. Lower settings apply when locked on to WAAS or EGNOS, higher settings can produce a more realistic reading in urban canyons with high buildings. This is a edit field.

Software heading

Toggles between the announcement of heading as calculated by the receiver and as calculated by the Loadstone GPS software. This may compensate for a high value of Static Navigation set by a receivers manufacturor.

Software speed

Toggles between the announcement of speed as calculated by the receiver and as calculated by the Loadstone GPS software. This may compensate for a high value of Static Navigation set by a receivers manufacturor.

Relaying

Determines if Loadstone-GPS will start up in relaying mode.

Try secundary GPS

When set to 'on' Loadstone will search for a secundary GPS receiver at startup if the default receiver is not found.

Sound settings.

Here you can configure the various sounds and vibrations the program emits during operation.
A sound specification is made up of one or more frequency specifications separated by spaces. A frequency specification is in the format:

frequency1[,frequency2][?volume][!repeats].duration
or
v[?intensity][!repeats].duration

Frequency1 and frequency2 are the sound frequencies to be played. This can be specified as a frequency in Hertzz or as a musical note. A musical note can consist of letters a through G, optionally followed by the # character to indicate the sharp of that note followed by a digit 0 through 9 to indicate the note's octave.
If the letter v is used in place of frequency1 this will cause the phone to vibrate instead of playing a sound. if 0 is specified then there will be no sound for the specified duration.
Volume is the percentage of the phone's maximum volume for this sound. The value is from 0 to 100. In the case of vibrate this value is from -100 to 100 and controls the intensity of the vibration. If the value is negative then the vibrate motor spins in the reverse direction.
Repeats indicates how many times this sound or vibration should play. The default is 1.
Duration is the time in milliseconds of this vibration or frequency.
Vibrations and sounds can be specified in the same sound specification.
Vibrations will take place in the background and sounds will be played in the foreground.
Vibration specifications will not have any effect on first edition phones.
You may be able to get a stronger vibration by specifying multiple vibrations with positive and negative intensities. The effect of this will depend on the phone.
Specifying frequency2 will have no effect on first edition phones. It may or may not work properly on second edition phones.
The sound specification can be up to 80 characters long.
When in the sound settings tab, pressing the 5 key will play the currently selected sound. Sometimes on first and second edition phones this can cause the sound system to lock up for a couple of seconds. This seems to happen more if you have key beeps (in the current profile) enabled. This will probably depend on the phone.
If you want a pause during vibration use an intensity setting of 1, 0 doesn't seem to do anything.

Query, Search and Show area timeout

These settings default to 300 seconds (five minutes) and the limits are ment to stop database queries from running for unreasonable amounts of time. The settings can go from 0 (unlimited) to 600 (10 minutes). It's possible to override the search timeout in the find point dialog. Leave these settings at their default values unless you are using a large database.

Wake up timeout

Sets the minimum time in seconds before the next wake up announcement will be triggered.

Keep awake timeout

The Keep awake timeout is in seconds and should be set to a value lower than the phone's screen saver is set to.

Max approach distance

Defines an area around a checkpoint in meters and alerts the user when this area is entered (approaching X). Note: This setting only activates when approach speed is insufficient to calculate the approach time! Set to zero to disable the approach announcement.

End key

Here you can define the action taken when the 'End' key (hangup key) is pressed. You have three options: Exits, Confirm Exit and Ignore.

gp1 ... gp9

Here you can store more complex variables, for example URL's that contain variables themselves, to which you can refer in the key editor by typing ${gp#}.

With the key editor you can change the behaviour of the phones keys when Loadstone-GPS is active and in navigation mode.

If you use the key editor you change the contents of the 'keys.map' file in the loadstone directory on the phone. It is highly recommended to make a backup of this file before using the key editor!

This option activates a window that will display the version of Loadstone you are using along with the date of its creation. Author and web site information is also displayed. Finally you will find your UserID as generated from your e-mail address here.

Exit Options

This option will exit Loadstone GPS. You may also exit Loadstone GPS by pressing softkey 2 from most areas of the program.
