The following terms are used throughout the documentation as well as Loadstone GPS itself.

In Loadstone GPS, a point is a specific place on the earth's surface, defined by its latitude and longitude, expressed in degrees in decimal format with an accuracy of 7 decimal places. The program enables a user to associate a textual string of alphanumeric characters to a point - making it easier to recognise.

A "waypoint" is a name for a point that is used for navigational purposes.

point of interst (POI)
A "point of interst" is a name for a point that may be of interest to the user.

A "checkpoint" is a point that has been identified by the user of Loadstone GPS as having a special significance. In Loadstone GPS, a checkpoint is often used to make (part of) a route.
